Medicare Supplement Plans

This year (2010) has brought some changes to the Medicare supplemental insurance market. As of June 1st, 2010, there will be different policies available, and modifications made so that they can better provide for your health care needs.

However, if you like the plan you already have, don't worry, you can keep it just as it is.

There are ten different Medicare supplemental plans available for you to choose from, though not every state offers all ten, and not every insurance company offers everything available in your state. This is why it's a good idea to shop around before you agree to purchase a policy.

The plans are designated with letters, including plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N.

The following table demonstrates the basic features offered by each plan:

*Medicare supplemental insurance plan N covers 100% of Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment except for a $20 dollar copayment for doctor's visits, and up to $50 for emergency visits.

When choosing your plan be sure to ask what the deductible is for each one, so you'll know how much you have to pay out-of-pocket before the plan takes effect.
